Hyundai (+112.5%) sails off in positive market (+10.2%) – Best Selling Cars Blog

It’s a second consecutive year-on-year lift for the Irish new car market in April at +10.2% to 7,874 sales. The year-to-date volume now stands at 57,764 units, up 4.2% over the same period in 2021. This month Hyundai (+112.5%) sails away with 15.7% share vs. 14% year-to-date, distancing Volkswagen (-8.6%) and last month’s leader Toyota (+22.9%). Kia (+64.2%) surges year-on-year but drops one spot on March to #4. Mercedes (+58%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10, with Peugeot (-37.8%), Skoda (-27.4%) and Ford (-20.4%) hit the hardest. Below, Citroen (+2300%), Cupra (+569.2%), MG (+400%) and Fiat (+100%) all post surreal gains, with Suzuki (+76.9%), Opel (+52.6%), Mini (+43.6%) and Nissan (+35.3%) also strong.
Over in the models ranking, the Hyundai Tucson (+96.6%) dominates more than ever, selling more than double any other vehicle in the country. The VW ID.4 (+27.4%) is back up six spots on March to land at #2 while the Kia Sportage (+127.5%) is up two ranks last month to round out the podium. The Toyota Yaris Cross easily tops recent launches at #4, up three spots on March. The Toyota RAV4 (+45.6%), Skoda Kodiaq (+42.1%) and Hyundai Kona (+31.9%) also post impressive year-on-year evolutions in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas the Toyota C-HR (-27.9%) and Corolla (-11.7%) both suffer. Further down, the Hyundai Bayon is up a whopping 61 ranks on last month to hit a record #13 and 2nd best recent launch with the Kia EV6 just below at #14 (+10). Notice also the Cupra Formentor up 636.4% to a best-ever #25 and the Dacia Jogger breaking into the Top 50 at #44.
